Steps to Register as a Coach & Find Courses:

1. Register as a Coach: Visit the Play Football registration page. Register as a COACH with your local club.
2. Access the Learning Centre: Once registered, log in to the Football Australia Learning Centre as a “Learner” using your Play Football credentials.
3. Find a Course: Use the “drop down links below to view and enrol in upcoming coaching courses, such as MiniRoos or Skill Training certificates.

MiniRoos Certificate (Beginner)

Coaching kids as an MiniRoos Program Leader is easier than you think. It’s not all about spending hours working on technical drills and tactics. It is simply about putting a smile on the face of kids out on the pitch.

The MiniRoos Certificate is the perfect way to get up to speed with coaching MiniRoos footballers.

On this FREE three-hour course you will…

  • Learn practical and fun games to engage kids in football
  • Re-inforce Get to know the basic rules of the game
  • Organise a safe playing experience and help kids fall in love with the game

Foundation of Football Course (Intermediate)

The Foundation of Football is aimed at volunteer parents and coaches working with advanced beginner to competent level players or players aged up to approximately fifteen (15) years old.

This course is a prerequisite for the Football Australia/AFC C Diploma.

The central focus of the course is to empower coaches to establish a safe and enjoyable environment for young players. It offers guidance on conducting engaging training sessions and provides pre-designed training plans for an entire season, alleviating coaches from the task of creating them themselves.

Coaches will participate in practical sessions covering the basics of techniques as well as learning about basic playing principles of the game. The course is mostly practical and not graded, allowing the student to participate in the training sessions if they so choose. The course also promotes participating in group discussions with the goal of exchanging experiences.

C Diploma (Advanced)

Aimed at coaches working with advanced beginner to competent level players or players aged approximately twelve (12) years of age and above.

The course is designed to provide a logical connection to the Foundation of Football Certificate covering in greater detail: (1) the technical aspects of the game, including teaching the basics of passing, receiving, and dribbling with the ball, as well as defending strategies; (2) the principles of coaching and comprehension of the principles of play; and (3) around the concept of teaching behaviour using various sorts of practise methods.

The C Diploma qualification is valid for three (3) years and is subject to licence revalidation through 15 Continued Professional Development (CPD) hours –  Licence Revalidation | Play Football

Full attendance is required. Failure to attend the full course will result in registration being removed.

Foundation of Football Goalkeeping Course

The Foundation of Goalkeeping course is designed as the first accreditation step for coaches, parents or volunteers who work with, or plan to work with goalkeepers of any standard across the country.

The training is designed with the player in mind and is based on how goalkeeper sessions should be delivered: safely and effectively and with a sense of fun. After completing the course, the student will be able to: Identify the training needs of goalkeepers, identify ways to make training inclusive for all participants, implement basic goalkeeper coaching principles, and create engaging goalkeeper sessions.
